ACR Reserves V Wormingford - cup report by Dickie
Today ACR Reserves took a break from the league to play their long delayed Tommy Thompson Cup fixture, against Worming ford Res. This was the last chance for the club to have any cup glory, this season, and as the reserves
kicked off, on a bright but cold March afternoon, they soon took control of the game pushing forward, whenever they could, but without really troubling the Worms. ,keeper. Gradually Worming ford started to come into the the game,
but the back four, superbly marshaled by ,keeper Anderson, were in no mood to give anything away. Then with ACR pushing forward, playing some nice inter passing, but with no real danger, in the twelfth min. the ball fell at
Jamie Bakers feet, and from just outside the box, his shot went over the Worms ,keeper, into the top of the net, to put the home side a goal to the good. This seemed to settle ACR down to take control of the game. Having
taken the lead, ACR continued to create chances, and even Worming ford tried to create some of their own, but with no more score, the first half drew to a close, with the reserves in full control. Half Time ACR Res. 1 Worm. Res. 0
The second half started very much in the same vein, with ACR res. very much in control, and with only five mins. gone ACR increase their lead with a well taken goal by Lee Alsop. Although Worming ford threaten on occasions,
ACR were always in control of this cup match, but were unable to score another goal, to kill the game. With just fifteen mins. left to go, they had the best chance of the game, to do just that. After a brilliant four man, Jamie
Baker stormed into the box, to put the ball away, but his shot sailed right over the bar. So with no more goals on the score sheet, the reserves sailed comfortable into the quarter finals, to keep the season alive.
With the reserves sitting in third place in the league, and a place in the quarter finals of the Tommy Thompson Cup, there is still plenty to keep the season alive, and just to add a bit of spice, the reserves home fixture against
Holland res., could be a dress rehearsal for the quarter final cup match, at a date to be arranged.
