The AFC Ewell Saturday senior team, which sprung out of the club’s youth teams, was formed on 22nd June 1989 when it was elected, as a Junior club, to the Sutton & District League.
This first season saw the club field one team in a lower division. However in season 1990/91 a reserve side was formed and both sides continued in the Sutton & District League until the end of the following season.
In an attempt to short circuit the system in the club’s bid to attain Intermediate status, the 1992/3 season saw the teams competing in the Kingston & District League. Although successful on the field off field diplomacy meant that for AFC Ewell to gain the more advanced status they were looking for, the club would have to return to the Sutton & District League.
This they did. Upon winning the Sutton & District top division at the end of the 1993/4 season, the club achieved its objective of Intermediate football by being elected to the Surrey South East Combination from the beginning of the 1994/5 season.
Since then the First Xl, with varying degrees of success, have competed in the lower division(s) of the Intermediate League. The Reserves were in the Junior section of the same league, until the team had to fold at the turn of the millennium.
